Qingdao SCO Summit, beautiful glass conference hall

On June 9th, the 18th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit was held in Qingdao, China, drawing the world’s attention on China once again since the 2012 SCO Summit in Beijing.

Qingdao, an important hub city of the “Belt and Road”, has a unique port location. Red tiles amid green trees against the blue sea and crystal blue sky, the combination of Chinese & Western cultures, and the blend of ancient & modern humanistic features, all of which are delineating the unique charm and the characteristics of this city.

The main venue of this summit is located in the Olympic Sailing Center in Qingdao, Shandong Province, covering an area of 31,000 square meters of 273m long and 70m wide. The design was inspired by the seagulls soaring across Qingdao and the sailboats sailing on the sea, and took the concept of “Taking off and Sailing off”. The abstract and modern architectural shapes vividly reproduced the characteristics of traditional Chinese elements and regional oceanic cultures. All of them formed a distinctive, iconic, cultural, and ecological architecture. The ultra-white glass curtain wall allowed guests to interact with the blue sea and the green mountain, making them deeply enjoy the breathtaking scenery.

All the curtain wall glass of the SCO venue is provided by Shanghai Glass, a branch of NorthGlass. The double-layer SGP laminated Low-E insulating glass measures 12,000 square meters of 4m wide per piece and is stitched with special seamless jointing technology. The glass exterior is covered with nearly 2,000 ultra-clear glass, transparent, bright and spacious. It is gleaming when looking closely and crystal from a distance. At night, the entire venue looks colorful and brilliant in the full lights.
